"I am sick and tired of being sick and tired." - Fannie Lou Hamer

I have been a nurse since 1987 (Medical College of GA) and became a Family Nurse Practitioner in 1998 (GA Southern). I have worked in a variety of settings from family practice, occupational medicine, geriatrics, Palliative care, and regenerative medicine. During the COVID crisis, while caring for palliative patients, I realized I had spent years treating diseases that had to be a symptom of something bigger. Why do they have diabetes, hypertension, skin problems, indigestion, dementia, cancer? Yes, it has to do a lot with their diet, but what part of the diet; the sugar, the lack of vegetables, fruits, is it processed foods, genetics, is it the water source, the food source, the plastics, the air, smoking...what and when did it start? At the end of 2020, I was burned out and begged God to let me leave medicine. There was a day I felt OK walking away, so I left that job and began selling camping equipment at Cabella's. Quite content not to deal with health issues - calm and peace. While I was there, I remembered hearing about functional nutrition and functional medicine. I began the online study of functional nutrition and began to understand thus answer the questions I had been asking for years. I was planning on using this information for myself, family and friends until I felt the pinch of declined income. I again prayed that God give me the strength to return to medicine and transition to Integrative medicine, and here we are.
I believe that our gut is such an important defense for our health. Over the years of processed food, environmental exposures, antibiotics, medicines, stress, lack of steady exercise, etc. has taken a toll on your gut health. Trying to health with probiotics, serving of kombucha, a month of salads and increasing our water intake helps, but like medication, it is a band aid and not cure. With a deep dive into your health history, life exposure, and all tried successful and failed therapies, we can test your gut health with labs and find a better path for your gut healing and overall health. A good start to overall healing.
I am currently practicing in Integrative medicine via telemedicine with plans (hopes) to have a brick-and-mortar location this lather this year.
